2026 NYC School Survey

Every year, we ask families, teachers, and staff of grades 3-K through 12, and students in grades 6-12 to take the NYC School Survey. The survey gives school leaders a better understanding of what members of their school community think about their school. The information collected by the survey is designed to support a dialogue among all members of the school community about how to make the school a better place to learn. Fall Festival Flyer
Dear Families of P.S. 64Q,

We are thrilled to announce our 4th Annual Fall Family Festival and Community Resource Fair, taking place on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in our school yard. We warmly invite all families from our school community to join us for a day filled with enjoyable activities, treats, and valuable community resources. Admission and certain activities will be complimentary for all families. This event also aims to raise funds for our school, so we will offer additional paid activities and food for purchase.

We are in need of volunteers to help set up on Friday, October 24, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., and on October 25 during the event for henna, face paint, concession sales, and games. Your support is greatly appreciated and essential for the success of our event.

Pumpkin Patch: $6.00 per child

Concession Stand: All items starting at $1.00

Face Paint: $3.00

Henna: $3.00

We eagerly anticipate a fun-filled day with each of you!

CBT Family Letter 2025-2026

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Each spring, students take the English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics tests in grades 3-8 and the Science tests in grades 5 and 8. These tests are used to measure how well students perform on
New York’s Next Generation Learning Standards. Over the past few years, schools across New York City have begun to administer these state tests
on a computer. All Grade 3, 4 and 5 students will take the New York State ELA, Math and Science exams on a computer.

Please note the following:

● Practice: Before the test is given, your child will have a chance to practice taking the test on a computer while in school. This will help your child become familiar with the online
testing format. You and your child can review and practice using the online Question Sampler (https://ny.nextera.questarai.com/tds/#practice)

● Testing schedule: Your child will have as much time as your child needs, within the limit of the school day, to complete the test.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we begin another exciting school year, I want to take a moment to say welcome back. We’ve officially kicked off the year, and I’m happy to report that the first day of school went smoothly. It was a joy to see our hallways filled with energy, enthusiasm, and eager learners. Thank you for helping make that possible with your support, preparation, and positive mindset.

To our returning families, thank you for your ongoing trust and support. Your involvement in your child’s learning makes a meaningful impact every day.

To those new to our school community, welcome! We’re so glad you’re here. Your fresh perspectives, ideas, and questions will help us grow even stronger. We hope you already feel seen, valued, and supported.

This year, we’ll continue our focus on academic excellence, leadership development, and fostering a school culture where every student feels safe, challenged, and celebrated. We believe that when schools and families work together, students thrive and that belief is at the heart of everything we do.

Here are a few reminders and updates as we move forward:

Virtual Meet the Staff Night will be held on Wednesday, September 17th from 4:30-7:30pm is a great opportunity to meet your child’s teachers and learn more about the year ahead.

PS 64Q Distraction-Free Policy for Personal Electronic Devices 2025-2026
PS 64Q Distraction-Free Policy for Personal Electronic Devices 2025-2026

At PS 64Q, we are committed to fostering a safe, respectful, and focused learning environment for our students. In alignment with New York State Distraction-Free Schools Policy, New York City Public Schools regulations, and in collaboration with the PS 64Q School Leadership Team, the following policy regarding personal electronic devices is in effect.

An "internet-enabled electronic device" is defined as any device capable of connecting to the internet and enabling the user to access online content. This includes, but is not limited to, cell phones, smartphones, wireless headphones, smartwatches, laptops, tablets, iPads, and portable music or entertainment systems.

Policy Overview:

Students are not permitted to use or access their personal internet-enabled electronic devices from the moment they enter the school building, at 8:00am, until the last class of the day ends, at 2:20pm, from bell to bell, including during breakfast, lunch, and recess. Additionally, students are not permitted to use their cellphones or other electronic devices in the bathroom at any time. During the school day, students may use school-issued or NYCPS-issued devices for educational purposes as directed by staff.

If a child is picked up late, they cannot use their device while waiting for their parent or guardian. If a student attends the DYCD after-school or a PS 64Q after school program, their device must remain off and locked in the designated pouch for the duration of the program.

COLLECTION/STORAGE

➔ Upon arrival, students must power off their devices.

◆ Students will place their devices in a Faraday pouch and secure it in the presence of school staff.

◆ Students will store their locked pouches in their backpacks for the day.

◆ At the end of the school day (2:15pm), students will unlock their pouches in their classroom.

◆ Students with approved early dismissal will be able to unlock their pouch in the main office.

EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS

➔ In case of emergency or urgent circumstances, parents or guardians can call the main office at

718-845-8290, to reach their child.

➔ In case of emergency or urgent circumstances, students may access phones in the main office to reach their parents or guardians.

➔ In case of emergency or urgent circumstances, the school will use Class DOJO and NYC Public Schools DOE Messaging System to communicate information to parents or guardians. To receive automated messages from the school, parents and guardians must have a NYC Schools Account.

◆ To create an account, visit https://schoolsaccount.nyc and click on the “Create Account” link

on the login page. You will need a creation code, which can be obtained from the Parent

Coordinator, Jeiry Reyes.

EXCEPTIONS

➔ Students are allowed to use their device if they have an individualized education program (IEP) or 504 Plan that includes use of an internet-enabled device and do not have a DOE-issued device for such purpose.

➔ Parents/guardians must contact Elizabeth Mitchell, Principal, at 718-845-8290, if a student

requires an exception for reasons such as: medical monitoring/treatment (for example, to monitor blood sugar or other similar circumstances).

➔ Exceptions will be processed and approved within five business days.

DISCIPLINE

➔ Use of personal electronic devices in violation of this school policy, the NYCPS Discipline Code,

Chancellor’s Regulation A-413, and/or the NYCPS Internet Acceptable Use and Safety Policy will have their devices confiscated and held by an administrator. Confiscated devices will only be returned to the student’s parent or guardian. Students will be subject to progressive discipline, meaning that consequences will increase in severity based on the nature and frequency of the violation.

OTHER: If lost or stolen devices and storage devices

➔ The school is not responsible for any damaged, lost, or stolen electronic devices.

➔ In the unlikely event that an electronic device is stolen or damaged at school, parents can submit a claim to the Comptroller’s Office. More information on submitting a claim is available on the

Comptroller’s webpage.

➔Families will incur a replacement fee for lost or damaged storage devices in the amount of $5.00.

Please note this Cellphone and Electronic Device policy is available on the school website http://www.ps64q.org/ and will be shared with all families and staff at the start of the school year.
