This update provides important information regarding NYC Public Schools (NYCPS), including key upcoming
dates from the 2024–25 School Year Calendar, admissions deadlines, planning for remote learning, New
York State vaccination requirements, and details about where you can get the latest news regarding NYCPS.

Important Upcoming Dates - November 1: Diwali, schools closed
- November 5: Election Day, no classes for NYCPS students
- November 7: Afternoon and evening PTCs for elementary schools*
- November 11: Veterans Day, schools closed
- November 14: Afternoon/evening PTCs for middle schools and D75 schools*
- November 21: Evening PTCs for high schools, K–12, and 6–12 schools
- November 22: Afternoon PTCs for high schools, K–12, and 6–12 schools*
- November 28–29: Thanksgiving Recess, schools closed
- December 24–January 1: Winter Recess, schools closed
*students in these schools dismissed three hours early

2025 High School Admissions
Planning to enroll in one of NYC's 700+ public high school programs in fall 2025? As of October 1, current eighth
graders and first-time ninth graders can participate in this year's NYCPS high school application process.

This year, MySchools (myschools.nyc) offers a new feature to help applicants understand their chances of
receiving an offer from a particular program (schools.nyc.gov/OfferChances). Additionally, students may now
list any number of program choices on their application, expanded from the previous limit of 12.

Fall 2025 High School applications will close on Wednesday, December 4. Learn more at schools.nyc.gov/HS.
2025 Middle School Admissions

As of October 15, students currently in fifth grade (or sixth grade, for students in K–6 elementary schools), can
participate in fall 2025 middle school admissions.

New this year, families can now list ANY City public middle school on their application. While zoned and district
priority schools will continue to prioritize zoned and/or district students, applicants from other zones/districts will
now be considered for remaining seats.

Fall 2025 Middle School applications will close on Friday, December 20. Learn more at schools.nyc.gov/MS.
November 2024 Parent-Teacher Conferences

This year’s second round of Parent-Teacher Conferences will begin on Thursday, November 7. Speak with your
child’s teachers to schedule your conference times. Visit our Parent-Teacher Conferences page
(schools.nyc.gov/ptc) for tips and additional guidance.

Preparing for Remote Learning

In the event that NYCPS buildings must close due to the weather, all K–12 students will be expected to participate
in their classes from home. Please ensure your child has a working internet-enabled device at home—prepare by
reaching out to your school directly now if your child needs a device loaned from NYCPS; do not wait for a building
closure. Learn how to get started using your loaned iPad or laptop at schools.nyc.gov/NYCPSdevices.
To participate in remote learning, students will need to log on using their NYCPS Student Account
(schools.nyc.gov/StudentAccounts). If you do not know your child’s username and password, please visit
selfservice.schools.nyc or ask your school for help. For information about the applications and platforms we use,
please visit schools.nyc.gov/DigitalLearning.

Stay Up to Date with Your Child’s Vaccinations

All NYCPS students, from Infant and Toddler programs through grade 12, must meet both State and City school
immunization requirements in order to attend school. Review the requirements for students in your child’s grade
level at schools.nyc.gov/immunization.

Remember: a healthy school setting gives all students the best opportunity to learn, and vaccines are among the
most effective tools we have to protect our children from diseases that can make them sick. Talk to your child's
health provider to learn more, or find a health provider who fits your family’s needs at pndslookup.health.ny.gov.

Annual Wonder Walk Notice

October 2024

Dear Parents:

We have partnered with the March of Dimes to have our annual Wonder Walk on Thursday, October 31st to raise funds to care for babies born prematurely.

Students who raise funds are invited to come to school dressed in a costume or to wear black and orange clothing.

For safety purposes, we will not allow the following:

NO costumes with masks or hoods covering the eyes.
NO swords, wands, or any other item which can cause injury.

For our Wonder Walk we will have a school-wide parade around the block. 3K & PreK will walk around the large school yard. Parents are more than welcome to come and watch our parade! PLEASE, we ask that parents stay on the other side of the street while we are walking. Every class will walk around the entire school block twice, so you will have a lot of opportunities to see your child.

Grades 3, 4, 5: 8:30 - 9:00am

Grades 3K, PreK, K, 1, and 2: 9:30 -10:00am

Route: We will start at the gates in our large school yard, walk up to the corner of 82nd and 97th avenue, and keep making rights down to 101st Ave and back up 83rd Street into the school yard.

We will only walk on the sidewalk around our school, we do not cross any streets.

In the event of inclement weather, we will have an indoor parade for students only.

If you do NOT want your child to participate in this event, please send a letter to notify your child’s teacher. We will have your child participate in an alternate activity.

We look forward to having a successful celebration.

Summer Reading Guide

FAMILIES

Review this guide’s resources to support your child in building their literacy skills

• Set a summer reading goal with your child and your child’s school.

Sample goals can include:

• Number of books read

• Number of pages read

• Time spent reading

• Exploring new genres and new authors

A note to families: Book titles and websites in this guide have been suggested by librarians and educational organizations. Be an active part of your child’s book selection. Also, please check with your child’s school if there are additional lists for recommended or required books.

Please bring the following change of clothes in case of accidents:

1 shirt

2 pairs of pants

1 pair of socks

1 pair of underwear ( if your child wears them)

Your child will also need:

A small blanket for naptime (we will send home every Friday to be washed)

A 4x6 family photo (for classroom display)

A water bottle (please send daily)

We would appreciate the following donations:

2 boxes of tissues

2 packages of baby wipes

*Students do not need school supplies such as pencils or crayons.

*Students will be given breakfast and lunch from the school every day, but you are welcome to send them with lunch from home if you desire.

Kindergarten

The following is a list of supplies your child will need for kindergarten. Please put your child's NAME on all the notebooks and supplies. *You do not need to send everything in one day, you can spread it during the week. LARGE, zippered schoolbag without wheels

3 hardcover primary writing notebooks (these notebooks have dotted lines on the bottom and an empty space on the top of the page)

3 plastic solid-colored folders with pockets (2 red, 1 orange)

3 boxes (12-pack) sharpened pencils (Ticonderoga brand preferred) 1 pack of large pink erasers (NOT pencil toppers)

3 packs of thin-tip dry-erase markers--Expo brand

2 boxes of CRAYOLA crayons- 24 count only

6 Elmer's SOLID glue sticks (no liquid glue)

2 boxes of tissues (Kleenex or Puffs)

2 rolls of Bounty paper towels

1 package of baby wipes (Huggies or Pampers)

1 bottle of hand sanitizer

1 bottle of hand soap

1 pair of safety scissors (metal blade ONLY)

1 pack of large (gallon-size) zip-lock bags

1 pack of small sandwich zip-lock bags

Your child will need these supplies at home to complete homework assignments. Crayons, glue, safety scissors, and pencils

The following items are needed for the classroom but are not part of the supply list. If you would like to donate any of these items, it would be greatly appreciated. Lysol disinfectant wipes, gallon-size Ziploc bags with slider, Quart size Ziploc with slider

2 sets of earbuds (no headphones, they are too bulky)

2 packages of post-it notes

2 package 3X5 ruled index cards highlighters (blue, yellow & pink)

Please bring the following items on the 2nd day of school

Please take note of the following: Please be advised that this year’s Senior Dues will be determined ASAP. Collection begins in January 2025 All fourth grade students received a Summer Learning Packet. Successful completion of this packet earns your child an additional ten (10) Senior Points to start their senior year in P.S. 64 Queens Your child is expected to have the times tables memorized by the start of 5th Grade.

P.S. 64Q Uniform Policy
Dear Parents and Guardians,

The parents of P.S. 64 have voted to adopt a mandatory uniform policy in our school. Students attending P.S. 64 are expected to comply with this policy by wearing a school uniform every day.

We are striving for 100% school uniform dress each day.

ALL STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR SCHOOL UNIFORMS EVERY DAY. -NAVY BLUE TOP- -KHAKI BOTTOMS-

If your child is participating in school spirit day, they should wear what is designated on those days.

If they are not participating in school spirit day, they should wear their uniforms.
